Welcome, lovely listeners, to Issue 26 of Comics Squee. Each podcast our panelists, resplendent in halftone dots, discuss the comic books, graphic novels, and general sequential art geekery that excites them. Our superpowers are tangents and tentacles.

2. 2) April: We Can Fix It – A Time Travel Memoir by Jess Fink (starts at 00:11:59.894)

   This book isn’t very long. But is totally compelling and interesting. The conceit of We Can Fix It is that she has a time machine; doesn’t matter how she got it or how it works – the story doesn’t go into it and it’s not important. The point is the main character has one and decides to use it to go back in time to visit herself, see all her sexy times and try to fix her past embarrassments.

   And of course everything that happens actually happened to the creator. This is a memoir, after all, just one told in a different and humorous way. The artwork is loose and fun and silly. And We Can Fix It is a really good book that’s also surprisingly touching.

3. 3) John: Witchfinder by Mike Mignola (writer) and Ben Stenbeck (artist) (starts at 00:23:12.675)

   Witchfinder is set in the Hellboy universe and tells the adventures of one Sir Edward Gray. Readers of other Hellboy titles might recognize the character from Lobster Johnson or Hellboy in Hell.

   This is a Victorian adventurer series. Sir Edward Gray is an occult investigator who is rumored to have saved the Queen, though he is discrete and won’t talk about any of it.

4. Justine Dolorfino: Kate Bishop Hawkeye (starts at 00:00:00.000)

   Kate Bishop is awesome and everybody should know who she is. She came on to the scene in the Marvel Universe in the pages of Young Avengers after the Avengers Disassembled event. At the time Clint Barton/Hawkeye was dead and Kate Bishop took up the bow and mantle of Hawkeye.

   We really love that Kate Bishop IS Hawkeye. She’s not Hawk-Girl, she’s not Lady Hawkeye. She’s Hawkeye. And Clint Barton is Hawkeye (and not dead). Kate’s not a sidekick, she’s an equal and stands on her own.

   The second Young Avengers volume, from Kieron and Gillean, doesn’t have much Kate Bishop in it. So we suggest getting the current volumes of Hawkeye, then going back to the start of Young Avengers.
